Mr. Burgess joined DHS in October 2010 after careers in the Navy and as a defense contractor. As a member of the National Cybersecurity Education and Awareness Branch, he now serves as the DHS lead for the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education’s (NICE) Component for Cybersecurity Workforce Training and Professional Development. He has been deeply involved in the development of the National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework (the Framework) and assisted the team for the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies (NICCS™).
Mr. Burgess holds B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Michigan and an M.S. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. A certified public accountant and horn player, he is active in the performing arts and serves as treasurer for the City of Fairfax Foundation for the Arts. He and his wife, Joan, are residents of Fairfax, VA.
