In January 2022, NIST revised Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201, which establishes standards for the use of Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials, including those on PIV Cards. NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-73-5: Parts 1–3 and SP 800-78-5 have subsequently been revised to align with FIPS 201.

Two PIV publications are being revised: "Interfaces for Personal Identity Verification" (SP 800-73-5, 3 parts), and "Cryptographic Algorithms and Key Sizes for Personal Identity Verification" (SP 800-78-5). Submit your public comments through December 8, 2023.

The Secretary of Commerce has approved the publication of FIPS 201-3, NIST latest revision of "Personal Identity Verification (PIV) of Federal Employees and Contractors."

Draft FIPS 201-3, "Personal Identity Verification (PIV) of Federal Employees and Contractors," is now available for public comment through February 1, 2021. 

NIST has published Special Publication (SP) 800-116 Revision 1, Guidelines for the Use of PIV Credentials in Facility Access.

NIST has updated the federal agency organizational codes specified in Special Publication (SP) 800-87, Codes for the Identification of Federal and Federally-Assisted Organizations. The changes included in this update, Revision 2, are summarized in the revision history in Appendix A.
