Fostering Standards for Privacy-Enhancing Cryptography

May 19, 2022

Luís T. A. N. Brandão - NIST/Strativia

Description

Abstract: Privacy-enhancing cryptography (PEC) tools are emerging as building blocks of foreseen applications that can achieve seemingly contrasting goals between utility and privacy of data, often in multi-party settings. This begs the question of what standardization approach should be followed to foster the use of advanced cryptography in the real world. This talk will overview the perspective of the PEC project at NIST, discuss challenges and opportunities, comment on the importance of interacting with stakeholders, and reflect on what may be useful future guidelines and recommendations.
