NIST's National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) is initiating the development of practices to ease the migration from the current set of public-key cryptographic algorithms to replacement algorithms that are resistant to quantum computer-based attacks. Today, we are releasing a draft NIST Cybersecurity White Paper to address this topic, Getting Ready for Post-Quantum Cryptography: Explore Challenges Associated with Adoption and Use of Post-Quantum Cryptographic Algorithms.
This paper introduces adoption challenges associated with post-quantum cryptography after the standardization process is completed. Planning requirements for migration to post-quantum cryptography are discussed. The paper concludes with NIST’s next steps for helping with the migration to post-quantum cryptography.
The public comment period for this draft ends on June 30, 2020. See the publication details for a copy of the draft and instructions for submitting comments. More information is also available on the NCCoE's applied crypto agility project homepage. See the Post-Quantum Cryptography project for updates on NIST's standardization effort.
