Abstract: Fuzzy Private Set Intersection (Fuzzy PSI) is an "approximate" variant of PSI that allows a receiver to learn points of the sender that are "close" to its points. Recently, there has been a lot of work in Fuzzy PSI that allows realizing important applications such as biometrics matching, privacy-preserving ride-sharing, contact tracing, etc. where points (e.g., faces, location co-ordinates) are only an approximate match instead of an exact one. However, such protocols make strong assumptions about the underlying input to attain better efficiency. In this talk, I will present a discussion on the applicability of such Fuzzy PSI protocols to real-world inputs.
