Description

Abstract. The NIST First Call for Multi-Party Threshold Schemes (NISTIR 8214C, still in draft mode) asks for public submissions of threshold schemes for diverse cryptographic primitives, so that the latter can be implemented even when the secret key is secret-shared across multiple parties. This talk will explain the scope and spirit of the "Threshold call", some of the submission requirements and related challenges, and a tentative timeline for 2023/2024. The analysis of the reference material to be collected in connection with the call will in particular support the National Institute of Standards and Technology in devising recommendations for subsequent processes. The participation of the MPC community is essential for the success of this enterprise.
