THQC: Threshold HQC-KEM Decryption

October 13, 2026

Presenters

Jean-Christophe Deneuville - Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile (ENAC) @ France

Description

"Preview Talk" (by team THQC) @ TCPT3, in reply to the NIST Threshold Call

Abstract:  This talk introduces THQC (Threshold Hamming Quasi-Cyclic), a threshold decryption version of FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) 207 HQC-KEM (Hamming Quasi-Cyclic Key-Encapsulation Mechanism). The decryption key is split using Shamir Secret Sharing.  Standard HQC parameters do not allow us to thresholdize decryption straightforwardly.  We will cover existing primitives making thresholdization possible.

Joint work: Jean-Christophe Deneuville, Nathan Maillet, Vincent Migliore, Cyrius Nugier.
