The NIST National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) has released the final NIST Interagency Report (IR) 8576, Transit Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) Community Profile, to help U.S. transit agencies strengthen their cybersecurity practices while supporting safe and reliable transit services.
Transit agencies run complex business and operational technology systems that increasingly rely on digital, network-based communication, expanding the cyberattack surface and requiring them to manage cyber risk alongside safety and operations.
Built on CSF 2.0, the Profile translates transit mission needs into a baseline of cybersecurity outcomes that agencies can adopt and adapt to their unique operating environments.
As a non-regulatory, neutral entity, NIST developed the Profile with transit operators, federal agencies involved in transit, and other stakeholders to address sector-specific challenges and encourage voluntary adoption of cybersecurity best practices.
