Recent Updates January 8, 2026: To facilitate discussion at the Cyber AI Profile Workshop #2 on January 14, 2026, an annotated outline (discussion draft) of Control Overlays for Securing AI Systems: Using and Fine-Tuning Predictive AI is available for review. Feedback is welcomed at the workshop, through ongoing engagement in the COSAiS Slack Channel, and by email to [email protected]. Initial feedback on this annotated outline should be submitted by February 13, 2026 to ensure consideration for inclusion in the initial public draft. August 14, 2025: The NIST SP...
[Redirects to https://www.nccoe.nist.gov/crypto-agility-considerations-migrating-post-quantum-cryptographic-algorithms] The advent of quantum computing technology will compromise many of the current cryptographic algorithms, especially public-key cryptography, which is widely used to protect digital information. Most algorithms on which we depend are used worldwide in components of many different communications, processing, and storage systems. Once access to practical quantum computers becomes available, all public-key algorithms and associated protocols will be vulnerable to criminals,...
[Redirects to https://www.cfreds.nist.gov/] This portal is your gateway to documented digital forensic image datasets. These datasets can assist in a variety of tasks, including tool testing, developing familiarity with tool behavior for given tasks, general practitioner training, and other unforeseen uses that dataset users can devise.
[Redirects to: https://www.nist.gov/itl/csd/secure-systems-and-applications/computer-forensics-tool-testing-program-cftt] There is a critical need in the law enforcement community to ensure the reliability of computer forensic tools. The goal of the CFTT project is to establish a methodology for testing computer forensic software tools by developing general tool specifications, test procedures, test criteria, test sets, and test hardware. The results provide the information necessary for toolmakers to improve tools, for users to make informed choices about acquiring and using computer...

NIST cybersecurity reference materials include data, models, software, and tools.
This topic includes: NIST's work with Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs), such as ISO, ANSI, IETF, etc.; and content that is about the topic of standards development. This topic does not refer to NIST cybersecurity standards or their development (e.g., public drafts).
"Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are smart systems that include engineered interacting networks of physical and computational components. These highly interconnected and integrated systems provide new functionalities to improve quality of life and enable technological advances in critical areas, such as personalized health care, emergency response, traffic flow management, smart manufacturing, defense and homeland security, and energy supply and use. In addition to CPS, there are many words and phrases (Industrial Internet, Internet of Things (IoT), machine-to-machine (M2M), smart cities, and...
The Cybersecurity Framework is a voluntary framework for reducing cyber risks to critical infrastructure. It is based on existing standards, guidelines, and practices, and was originally developed with stakeholders in response to Executive Order (EO) 13636 (February 12, 2013).
Operational technology (OT) encompasses a broad range of programmable systems and devices that interact with the physical environment (or manage devices that interact with the physical environment). These systems and devices detect or cause a direct change through the monitoring and/or control of devices, processes, and events. Examples include industrial control systems, building automation systems, transportation systems, physical access control systems, physical environment monitoring systems, and physical environment measurement systems. "Small businesses are defined differently depending on the industry sector. For [NISTIR 7621 Rev. 1], the definition of a small business includes for-profit, non-profit, and similar organizations with up to 500 employees. Synonymous with “Small Enterprise or Small Organization”. See the SBA [Small Business Administration] website www.sba.gov for more information." (NISTIR 7621 Rev. 1)
