Abstract: In this talk we present the concept of cryptographic satellites (crypto-satellites), initially introduced by Michalevsky and Winetraub in the SpaceTEE paper, and how they can be used as a trusted party for cryptographic applications, blockchain protocols, zero-knowledge, verifiable delays, private voting and as trusted sources of entropy. Providing perfect physical isolation after being launched to orbit, they posses the properties of an ultimate trusted execution environment, suitable for applications that require extremely high levels of confidentiality and integrity. We describe how this concept is implemented in practice by Cryptosat, and how it's being applied to real-world use-cases, mainly (but not limited to) in the blockchain and Web3 space. We will describe the architecture of the two satellites we have already deployed (Crypto1 and Crypto2) and a future roadmap to address new use-cases requiring a larger constellation.
